The Emotions You Were Never Taught.
A course on reading and working with your full emotional range.
Most people were taught to manage their emotions: to suppress, contain, or perform them appropriately. This course teaches something different: how to read them as information, work with them in the body, and live with the full range rather than the curated version.

The Emotions You Were Never Taught.
This course is designed to help you slow the pattern down, understand what is happening underneath it, and begin practising a steadier, kinder way forward. It does not ask you to become someone else. It helps you return to yourself with more clarity, language, and choice.

6 Modules. Self-paced lessons
Each module is a place to understand one layer more clearly. Move slowly. Let the language meet the part of your life that has needed more care, more honesty, and a more hopeful way forward.
Not character traits, not personality, but information. A clear neurological and psychological account of what emotions are doing and why they are worth paying attention to rather than managing away.
Explore research and reflection on emotional expression and suppression, including possible trade-offs in different contexts. Suppression is not assumed to cause a particular health outcome in every person.
The practice of working with emotions as data before acting on them: naming accurately, locating in the body, and asking what the signal is pointing at rather than immediately responding to the surface.
The ones most people manage, avoid, or perform: shame, anger, grief, fear. Each module within this module works with the emotion that is most frequently suppressed and most frequently misunderstood.
The difference between managing your emotional state (regulation) and working with emotional information (intelligence), and why you need both rather than just the more socially acceptable one.
What it looks like to live with the full range rather than the curated version: not emotional incontinence, but genuine responsiveness. The life available from there.

What does 'emotional mastery' mean: is this about controlling emotions?
No. Emotional mastery in this course means understanding your emotions at the level of mechanism: what they are, what produces them, what they are trying to communicate, and then being able to work with them rather than simply being moved by them or suppressing them. Control is the wrong goal. Literacy is the right one.
How is this course different from emotional intelligence (EQ) training?
Most EQ training focuses on interpersonal skills: reading others, managing impressions, navigating social situations. This course focuses on intrapersonal understanding: what your own emotional responses are, where they come from, why suppression backfires, and how to develop a genuine relationship with your inner life rather than a managed performance of it.
Does this course cover specific emotions like anger or grief?
The course covers the full range, with particular attention to the emotions that are most commonly suppressed, misread, or misunderstood. Other My Inner Foundation courses, including dedicated courses on anger, grief, and shame, go deeper into specific emotions. This course provides the foundational framework that makes all of those more useful.
What is the neuroscience basis of this course?
The course introduces simplified psychological and neuroscience accounts of emotion for general learning. Emotional experiences arise from interacting processes, and these accounts cannot determine an individual cause or prescribe treatment.
Is Emotional Mastery a video course or a live workshop?
Neither. It is a written course. There are no videos, no live calls and no scheduled sessions — you read it, sit with it and return to it whenever it suits you.
How long does the course take?
This is a self-paced written course, with no set completion deadline. You can read at your own pace and return to lessons while you have access. Course access is governed by your membership terms; it does not continue indefinitely after membership ends.
What do I get, and how long do I keep it?
You can read the full written course online on any device while your All-Access membership is active, including any remaining paid-through period after cancellation. There is no course-completion deadline, but access ends when your paid membership access ends. One membership opens every course in the library, with no separate course fees.
Is emotional mastery the same as staying calm?
No. Mastery here means being able to feel the whole range without being governed by it. Forced calm is usually suppression, and the course treats that as a different problem.
Is this therapy?
No. It is educational and reflective writing. It is not therapy, diagnosis, medical advice or crisis support, and it does not replace working with a professional if you need one.
A course by Olivia Fox, founder of My Inner Foundation. She writes about what she has lived, worked through herself, and sat with in others, translating real inner work and years of supporting people through these exact struggles into language that is precise, honest, and genuinely useful.
