The Beliefs Underneath.
A written course on the deep conclusions shaping how you read yourself, other people, and the world.
Long before you had words for it, you drew conclusions about who you are, what other people are like, and what the world will do with you. This is a quiet look at those conclusions—and a gentler, more accurate way to hold them.
The work beneath
The Beliefs Underneath.
A core belief is not merely a thought you repeat. It is a deeper assumption that helps decide what an event means: whether a mistake means you are inadequate, distance means you are unwanted, uncertainty means you are unsafe, or another person’s mood means you have done something wrong.
These beliefs often formed as intelligent attempts to make sense of earlier experience. The problem is not that you once reached a conclusion. It is that an old conclusion can keep interpreting new life before you have had the chance to look. This course helps you slow that sequence down, examine it fairly, and create more room between what happened and what you decide it says about you.
The aim is not to force a brighter belief over a painful one. It is to become more accurate, more compassionate, and less governed by conclusions that have never been properly examined.
5 Modules. Fifteen substantial lessons.
The course moves from recognising the deeper belief to following its everyday pattern, examining it fairly, testing it carefully, and practising from more balanced ground. Each lesson includes reflection, saved journaling and a usable next step.
Understand what core beliefs are, where they point, and why familiar conclusions can feel more like facts than interpretations.
Trace the sequence from trigger to automatic thought, feeling, protective action, and the private rules that keep the belief in place.
Examine evidence fairly, widen a single painful interpretation, and learn to hold certainty with more curiosity.
Use careful behavioural experiments, make meaning of mixed results, and meet setbacks without turning them into a verdict on your worth.
Build balanced beliefs through collected evidence, compassionate language, repeated action, and an honest plan for carrying the work forward.
The Beliefs Underneath.
You do not have to shame an old belief to stop letting it make every decision.

What exactly is a core belief?
In this course, a core belief means a broad, deeply held assumption about yourself, other people, or the world. It can influence the meaning you give to events before you have consciously considered other explanations. The course treats core beliefs as understandable patterns that can be examined—not hidden truths about who you are.
Will I be told to replace negative thoughts with positive ones?
No. Forced positivity can become another way of dismissing experience. The work is to move toward beliefs that are more balanced and better supported by the whole of your life, including complexity, exceptions and evidence an old belief tends to overlook.
What if an experiment seems to prove my fear?
A difficult result deserves honest attention, but it does not automatically prove a global conclusion about your worth, lovability, competence or safety. One lesson is devoted to reading mixed or disappointing results carefully, learning what is specific to the situation, and deciding what the evidence genuinely supports.
How emotionally demanding is the course?
Some reflections may bring you close to old experiences or familiar self-judgements. You can move slowly, skip a prompt, stop, or return later. You never have to disclose anything to another person, and insight is not measured by how much pain you make yourself revisit.
What is the format and how long does access last?
It is a fully written, self-paced course with five modules and fifteen lessons, saved reflections, progress tracking and practical exercises. It is included in the full My Inner Foundation membership for as long as your membership remains active.
Is this therapy or a replacement for professional care?
No. This is educational and reflective material, informed by cognitive, mindfulness, acceptance-based and self-compassion approaches. It does not diagnose or treat mental-health conditions. If beliefs are connected to severe distress, trauma, abuse, self-harm, or immediate danger, qualified professional or emergency support is the appropriate primary care.
A course by Olivia Fox, founder of My Inner Foundation, translating lived inner work and established psychological ideas into language that is thoughtful, direct, and genuinely usable.

A gentle note before you begin
My Inner Foundation courses are educational and reflective. They are not therapy, diagnosis, medical advice, or crisis support. This course draws on established cognitive therapy, behavioural experimentation, mindfulness, acceptance-based work and self-compassion while presenting those ideas as learning tools rather than universal explanations.
